Do you have a Fire Hydrant located near your house?

CHELMSFORD RESIDENTS:

The Chelmsford Water District is asking for your assistance in clearing any fire hydrants that are located in your neighborhood. The District has over 1,300 hydrants and it is next to impossible for us to dig out all of these hydrants quickly after a large storm. Please take notice of the General Laws of Massachusetts Chapter 148 Section 27B. We thank you for you cooperation in preserving Public Safety.

PART I. ADMINISTRATION OF THE GOVERNMENT

TITLE XX. PUBLIC SAFETY AND GOOD ORDER

CHAPTER 148. FIRE PREVENTION

Chapter 148: Section 27B. Piling snow on fire hydrants; penalty

Section 27B. No person other than an employee in the service of the commonwealth or any political subdivision thereof or in the service of an independent contractor acting for the commonwealth or any such subdivision shall pile, push or plow snow or ice on or against any fire hydrant or other similar device used for fire protection which is located in any public or private way so as to conceal such hydrant or device or cover any outlet thereof. Whoever violates this section shall be punished by a fine of not more than one hundred dollars.
