Why can’t the district drill more wells or look for new sources?

The District’s legal ability to withdraw water is controlled through the State’s Water Management Act (WMA) and as such it has a specific withdrawal limit that it has to comply with.  Additionally, there are conditions attached to this ability withdraw to which the District must comply with as well, such as the Summer Management Plan. So the number of wells does not really affect positively or negatively, the District’s ability to pump or withdraw. The District is always open to improving its ability and is open to the search for new sources but the process is extremely regulated, lengthy and costly. As such, the District, approached the process carefully.
